Secura Ice Cream Maker Review
The Secura Ice Cream Maker with Self-Refrigerating Compressor by Secura is one of the best-kept secrets in the ice cream making world! After reviewing virtually all of the ice cream makers on the market, we’ve found this Secura machine to be among the best values, if you’re looking for a compressor-based machine. Keep reading, and our friendly neighborhood cow, Moo, will show you the pros and cons of this machine and what to expect if you choose to buy it.
The Secura ice cream makers can make up to 1-1/2-quarts of delicious frozen yogurt, sorbet, gelato, or regular ice cream maker. It takes about 30 minutes to make a small batch of ice cream and closer to an hour for a large batch to be ready, depending upon the ingredients you’ve used.
The housing is high quality plastic, which is a better insulator than stainless steel. The removable bowl is made of stainless steel so that it’s easy to wash again and again.
The compressor cools your ingredients to below freezing, so your ice cream is churned in a frozen environment — which means that you’ll get a creamy, silky dessert without any grainy ice particles.
How it works:
The compressor is located in the base of the machine, and it cools the temperature so that the ice cream is churned at a point below freezing. The motor is removable, and located at the top of the machine.
The stainless steel bucket, plastic mixing paddle, and transparent cover (which serves to keep the cold air in and prevent splashes) are all removable and washable.
After you fill your bucket with an ice cream mix, you’ll place in in the machine’s base. Next, you’ll attach the paddle to the motor, and click that into place right above the bucket, along with the clear lid. Plug it in, set the timer, take a short nap, and enjoy your scrumptious ice cream!
As an added safety feature, the motor must be plugged into the base of the Secura ice cream machine in order for the paddle to rotate. This prevents the paddle from accidentally spinning and harming someone after removing the motor and paddle when the ice cream is ready.
So you can rest assured that children can help scrape ice cream off the paddle with the conveniently included spatula without any worries that the machine may turn on, even if your base is still plugged into the wall, as long as you have unplugged the motor from the base.

No prep time:
Not only is there no need to prepare for making ice cream by freezing a bowl or gathering ice, but you also do not have to worry about making consecutive batches of ice cream with this Secura machine!
You can make vanilla, chocolate, peanut butter, peach, blueberry flavored ice cream batches — one after another, without any downtime! Simply rinse off the bowl and paddle between flavors (unless you specifically enjoy blueberry-tinged peanut butter ice cream! I like ‘em all! Moo!).
There’s no risk of the Secura ice cream maker overheating at all, since it functions like an air conditioner, and it will continue cooling the inner chamber for as long as it’s plugged in. (And as long as you have hungry people hanging around the kitchen!)
This ice cream machine measures 13″ in length by 9.5″ in width. It’s 12″ in height. It weighs about 20 lbs, so you’ll probably want to find a place on the counter where you can keep it, rather than taking it out and putting it away each time your family wants more ice cream (which is fairly often around here, about every hour or so! Moo!)
The unit must be level with the ground for at least five hours prior to using it. This is so that the refrigerant and oils inside the motor can separate – just like any air conditioner unit which won’t function properly on its side! A few people on Amazon.com who reviewed this product said that their machine was DOA, which was likely due to having been on its side or upside-down during shipping without waiting the required time for the fluids to settle. Amazon offers a two month full satisfaction guarantee, so there’s no need to worry – if your unit was damaged during shipment, they will reimburse you or ship a new one at no extra charge.
The only other issue that sometimes came up was that the bucket is initially tightly attached to the machine’s base. It may take a few moments of jiggling in order to remove the bucket from the base the first time that you use it.
You’ll find the Secura Ice Cream Maker at several online retailers. Amazon.com offers the best price by far — you can save over $100 by shopping at Amazon rather than other retailers! Since this machine is heavy, you’ll be glad that you don’t need to pay for the shipping — it’s free at Amazon.com.
